Vijayawada, July 26: Following the High Court stay on the hike in management quota in private medical and dental colleges, the NTR University of Health Sciences (NTR UHS) has decided to conduct fresh counselling to fill 10 per cent seats in Category B from August 27 to 30.
The government had hiked the number of seats under Category C or management quota from 30 per cent to 40 per cent after the Eamcet prompting a student to challenge the same in the High Court. The hike effectively shrank the number of seats available in Category B (which are filled on the basis of merit) by 10 per cent. Seats under Category C are filled by the respective managements of the colleges and the fee runs into lakhs of rupees whereas the fee for Category B seats is about Rs 55,000 per annum.
The 10 per cent seats, added to the management quota, will now be filled in category B.
As many as 230 MBBS and 151 BDS seats will be filled by the university authorities.
At a press conference here on Saturday, NTR UHS Vice-Chancellor A V Krishnam Raju said the next phase of counselling was an extension of the first phase and those who had already obtained MBBS and BDS seats in the first phase could attend it seeking re-admission in a better college.
‘’The second and final phase of counselling will be held by the end of August. Meanwhile, seats in Sports and PH categories will be filled in accordance with the notification issued by the university,’’ he said.
