Hyderabad, July 10: Corruption in professional fields would cripple the development of democracies like India, said Central Vigilance Commissioner Pratyush Sinha and called upon managements of all public and private companies to comply with ethics and values in transactions.
Speaking at the seventh anniversary celebrations of the Vigilance Study Circle (VSC) here today on the responsibility for ensuring a ethical climate in organisations, he said corruption threatened people and governments by denying the poor their share, distorting decisions and diverting investible resources.
“Research on corruption has revealed that four categories of people are involved in the process of corruption. One is the noncorrupt, which is hypothetical. The second is those who benefit from corruption, third who are guilty of corruption and fourth who are potentially corrupt. It is found that to indulge in corruption, high skill and intelligence is required because the illgotten money or benefit has to be concealed to escape the clutches of law,” Sinha said.
Giving the welcome address, N V Raja Shekar, president of VSC said the centre’s focus was on encouraging civil society groups to work for eradication of corruption. “There is a need to make improvements in the vigilance system and procedures in vogue in order to make them more effective. Leveraging technology for vigilance administration will be a major step in that direction,” he said.
Later, Dr S Subramanian, founderpatron of VSC and K Swaminathan, Vigilance Commissioner of Andhra Pradesh, released a souvenir. They also presented Vigilance Excellence awards to various staff members.
NMDC chairman and managing director Rana Som, CMD of Midhani M Narayana, and CMD of BDL Maj.Gen. Ravi Khetarpal participated in the celebrations.
