Corruption charges against ex-CJI’s kin dropped

Thiruvanthapuram, June 29: The Kerala Vigilance Department has provided some relief to former Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan’s son-in-law PV Sreenijin, who was facing charges of disproportionate assets.
Five months after an enquiry was ordered, the Kerala Vigilance Department has written to the government recommending closure of corruption case against former CJI, KG Balakrishnan’s son-in-law.
The Vigilance Department, probing the corruption allegations against PV Sreenijin, has said no complaint received links him to any public servant.
The Kerala Vigilance Department, in its letter to the government, which has been accessed by CNN-IBN, has said inquiry against private individual under Prevention of Corruption Act is not proper.
The UDF government says allegations are serious, so fresh inquiry can be ordered by another agency.
Former Kerala Chief Minister Achuthanandan had ordered probe against Sreenijin for amassing wealth in excess of his known income.
Reacting to the state vigilance department’s action, the Kerala government said, “We have received the Director of VACB’s letter. There may not be a vigilance angle. But if the Government continues to feel that the allegation is still serious in nature and worthy of enquiring, we will order for the same by another concerned department in concern to amassment of wealth.”
