Hyderabad, August 12: The outgoing State Human Rights Commission Chairman Ch Subhashan Reddy on Wednesday said that corruption has taken deep roots in society and violations of human rights are on the increase.
Mr Subhashan Reddy expressed his satisfaction over serving as the Chairman of the SHRC for five years, without any blot or accusation raised against him.
He said that, “it is very sad to say that the society presently reels under corruption. Corruption by itself is a violation of Human Rights.
Justice Subhashan Reddy further expressed, that “ the day is a proud for me as I am departing after upholding the spirit of the Constitution and with the knowledge that over 40,000 cases were disposed off during my tenure.”
In addition to this, on the occasion of the fifth Foundation Day of Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission, 11,402 cases were dealt with this year alone.
If the comments of the dignitaries who gathered to see off Mr Subhashan Reddy are any indication, he will be sorely missed at the SHRC.
The National Human Rights Commission had advised an extension to Mr Subhashan Reddy’s term for another three years.
Retired Judge E Ismail praised the outgoing SHRC Chairman by saying that his approach to people’s problems led them to believe that they were addressing a friend, instead of an official. He said, “The State Human Rights Commission is a platform, where pension matters to family disputes are solved successfully.
Mr Kakumanu Pedaperi Reddy and Mr M Rama Rao will handle duties at the SHRC from Thursday.
