Corporators get tomatoes after plane capers

Vishakapatnam, April 20: A team of 25 members comprising corporators and officials of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation, who had gone on a tour to Maharashtra, was given a hostile reception when they landed at the city airport for allegedly misbehaving with an air-hostess.

As soon as they came out of the terminal, protesters raised slogans against the corporators who reportedly misbehaved with the air hostess of a Kingfisher plane before it landed at Pune airport.

While the corporators and officials started to leave in their cars, some protestors hurled eggs, tomatoes and footwear at them.

The protesters said the GVMC corporators and officials went on a pleasure trip at the tax-payer’ cost and tarnished the image of Vizag by misbehaving with an air-hostess.

“The corporation hiked the property tax manifold and imposed user charges to generate additional revenue. While we pay higher taxes from our hard-earned income, the corporators go on pleasure trips,” said one protester.

In their defence, the GVMC corporators said they violated no rule. As per Clause 20 in Section 112 of the 1955 Act, reps of the corporations can visit places to study their civic amenities.

Regarding the alleged misbehaviour with an air-hostess, they said after the plane landed in Pune, a passenger complained to CISF that the corporators had been talking loudly during the flight for which they were taken for questioning. But no one misbehaved with any air-hostess, they added.
