New Delhi: A special court here on Tuesday extended the CBI custody of a senior officer of the Corporate Affairs Ministry and another accused by three days in a corruption case.
Central Bureau of Investigation Special Judge Gurdeep Singh allowed the probe agency to quiz the ministry’s Director General Bal Kishan Bansal and a chartered accountant Gopal Krishan till Friday.
Both were presented before the court after the expiry of their two-day CBI custody.
Public Prosecutor K.P. Singh told the court that the custodial interrogation of the accused is required to unearth the conspiracy and to know the details of 17 bank accounts and 15-16 lockers opened in the name of Bansal and his family members.
Singh said Bansal’s son had operated some of the bank accounts of the accused officer. He said Bansal’s son is on the run and there are chances they can tamper with the evidence.
Upset over the two CBI raids at their residence within three days, Bansal’s wife Satyabala Bansal, 57 and daughter Neha Bansal, 27, allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday.
Both were found hanging from ceiling fans in different rooms of their first floor flat in Neelkanth Apartments in east Delhi’s Madhu Vihar area, police said.
The CBI had raided their flat on Saturday and Monday morning, a neighbour told IANS.
Bansal was arrested on bribery charges on Saturday and remanded in two-day custody by a special court on Sunday. Bansal was accused of receiving Rs 9 lakh from Mumbai-based Elder Pharmaceuticals.
The CBI had also booked company chief operating officer Anuj Saxena.
During investigation, the CBI is said to have found that the senior officer owned 20 properties in Haryana’s Sirsa, Gurgaon and Faridabad as well as Delhi.
All the properties were bought in the last two years and most were in the names of Bansal, his wife and son.
