Cornered, robbers jump off 3rd floor

New Delhi, March 14: Five armed men allegedly robbed a finance company’s third-floor office in northwest Delhi on Saturday, police said. Two were held.

The men fled with Rs 5 lakh in cash but they had to jump off from the third floor balcony because the bank staff and locals attempted to block their exit. Police said the incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. at the Muthoot Financial Group’s Keshavpuram office.

“The men – two of whom were reportedly armed with country-made pistols – entered the bank around noon, posing as customers,” said a senior police officer. “They brandished their guns, and shot in the air minutes after they had entered and threatened the staff with dire consequences if any one came in their way,” the officer said.

As soon as they fired the first shot, the bank’s security guard alerted one of the residents of the adjacent residential complex. The resident stealthily made her way to the finance company’s entrance and locked the assailants inside.
