Hyderabad: As the city enforces a lockdown due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, the Hyderabad City Police has taken a page out of the Chennai police’s book in that they will be wearing a Coronavirus helmet which warns people to stay inside during the lockdown.
Inspire by a Chennai Police Officer who creatively conveyed the message to citizens, Hyderabad Traffic Police Officers will be wearing specially constructed helmets that look like the Coronavirus particles while stopping vehicles and pedestrians at checkpoints.
The helmet is covered in red spikes with bulbs on the end, just like the microscopic image of the COVID-19, which causes the disease Coronavirus.
This initiative aims to create public awareness around preventive measures being taken and the pandemic in the city.
Hyderabad City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police Shikha Goel and other officers put this idea of helmet-wearing patrolling traffic police officers into motion on Tuesday.
Wearing the helmet, police officers stop people in cars or motorcycles, especially when they see them without face masks on. The police officer tells them about the necessity of social distancing and protective personal equipment while also urging them not to go outside for nonessential reasons.
Dressed as the coronavirus, the cops proclaim: “If you come out, I will come in.”
Telangana has recorded seven deaths of the coronavirus with a large number of people under treatment at the Gandhi Hospital.
