Cops teargas students on Osmania campus

The Osmania University campus on Sunday turned tense when the police opened tear gas shells at the students, who tried to take out a bike rally in support of the Telangana political JAC’s ‘Samara Deeksha’ at Indira Park. In the melee, a student received head injuries when he was hit by a stone.

A section of students launched the bike rally from Arts College to lay a siege to the Raj Bhavan protesting against the Centre’s hostile attitude and delaying a decision on separate Telangana State. But the police stopped the students at the NCC Gate resulting in heated exchanges between the students and police personnel.

When the enraged students resorted to stone-thowing, the police retaliated by lobbing tear gas shells at the students. The police obstructed some students, who sped towards Raj Bhavan, at Khairathabad Crossroads and took them into custody.

However, the war between the police and students continued till evening. The police continuously lobbed tear gas shells at students and the latter pelted stones at the cops.
