Cops taking test stage protest

Hyderabad, April 17: Hundreds of constables, appearing for a test to get promoted as head constables, staged a protest at the Police Training College (PTC) at Amberpet here today, alleging that a senior officer, who was posted as an invigilator, abused them in filthy language.

Examinations were being held at all PTCs in the State for constables to be promoted as head constables. The examinations, which commenced yesterday, are scheduled till April 21.

At the PTC in Amberpet here, 510 candidates seeking promotion were taking the examination in two batches, one in the morning and another in the afternoon. As a foolproof measure, the invigilation duties were jumbled and Ongole PTC principal Madhava Rao was given duty at the Amberpet PTC.

Madhava Rao, it is learnt, found `chits’ in the examination hall and nearby areas.

He reportedly called up the 350 candidates who were taking examination in the first batch and chided them for indulging in malpractice while being in police service.

The constables, alleging that Madhava Rao used filthy and abusive language, walked out of the examination hall and staged a dharna outside the PTC.

The issue subsided after Additional DGP (Training) Kode Durga Prasad reached there and pacified the agitating constables with an assurance that Rao would not be given the invigilation duty from tomorrow.
