Several CPM protestors were grievously injured when the police swung their lathis on them at the district Collectorate here on Tuesday, when they staged a dharna demanding that the State government find lasting solutions to the people’s burning problems.
It may be mentioned here that the State CPI-M organized picketing of Collectorates on the people’s problems on December 11. Several women and children reportedly fell down unconscious in the police action.
Similarly, the protestors, led by CPM leaders marched to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and staged a dharna demanding that the State government solve the people’s problems. Speaking on the occasion, the CPM leaders accused the civic officials of letting off land grabbers, who were encroaching upon municipal parks and tanks. They demanded that the government take immediate steps to bring the culprits to book and solve the problems of the citizens.
In Vizianagaram The CPM activists stormed the Vizianagaram Collectorate in protest against the steep hike in electricity charges. The police personnel intervened when the protestors attempted to barge into the Collectorate. When the people insisted that they would meet the officials and narrate their tales of woe, the police dispersed them by caning them indiscriminately.
