Cops suspended, transferred over kidnapped boy’s murder

Chandigarh, January 19: Two police inspectors and a sub- inspector were today suspended and a sub-divisional police officer was transferred for alleged dereliction of duty in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a child here.

Five-year-old Khushpreet was found murdered in Mohali after his kidnapping last month, triggering strong protests by city residents. Police are yet to crack the case.

In view of findings of a magisterial inquiry into the matter, Inspector Udaypal Singh (the then SHO of Police Station-34), Inspector Narinder Singh Patiyal (the then Incharge of police post Burail) and SI Balraj Singh (police post Burail) have been placed under suspension with immediate effect, an official spokesman said.

A regular departmental inquiry for major penalty has been ordered against them, he said.

Vijay Kumar, SDPO (South) has also been transferred to the police headquarters with immediate effect, the spokesman said.
