Cops suspended for manhandling couple during protest

Etawah, September 05: Two police personnel, including a sub-inspector, were suspended for allegedly manhandling a couple during a protest by ad-hoc teachers, officials said here today. SI Ishtiyaq Ahmad amd personnel Shailendra have been placed under suspension for misbehaving with and manhandling a couple during a protest by ”shiksha mitras” yesterday, Senior SP Rakesh Pradhan said.

Additional SP has been asked to probe the incident. Scores of ”shiksha mitras” were injured as police used batons to disperse the ad-hoc teachers who took to streets in different parts of Uttar Pradesh to press for benefits similar to permanent employees.

Over 35 shiksha mitras were arrested as they blocked rail traffic at a number of places and indulged in brick batting in protests on the eve of the Teachers Day. Here, the teachers who were demanding ”equal pay for equal work” blocked rail tracks at Farukkhabad crossing and when police attempted to remove them they indulged in brick batting in which several people were injured, they said.
