Nagpur, December 21: Even before the tabling of the Ram Pradhan Committee report in Maharashtra Assembly, controversy erupted on Friday morning as former CM Vilasrao Deshmukh demanded action be taken against police officers who were responsible for the lapses.
Deshmukh, who had to step down amidst huge public pressure, said while political leaders had taken responsibility of the Mumbai attacks, police officers responsible for the city’s safety had not done so.
“The Union Home Minister, state Home Minister stepped down as people were angry- it doesn’t mean they were responsible for the attacks but one has to respect the public’s sentiment,” he said.
He demanded firm action against responsible cops.
The Ram Pradhan Committee report that evaluated the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks will be tabled in Maharashtra Assembly today.
On the missing bullet-proof jacket of ATS chief Hemant Karkare and file related to jacket procurement, Patil said 10 persons who were handling the file will be placed under suspension. Similarly, action will be taken against persons responsible for seizing bullet-proof jacket worn by Karkare during the 26/11 attacks operation, he said.
The Home Minister RR Patil had said a 15-member committee has been set up after talks with leaders of various groups in the House to discuss the nature of discussion on the report.
The Opposition, not satisfied with the replies, wanted to know whether the leaked report in the media and a copy of the same which they handed over to chief minister was same or not. Patil evaded direct replies.
