New Delhi: The Congress Party on Wednesday lashed out at the Bihar Police for releasing the identity of a rape victim on its official Facebook page and called for action against the erring officials.
Congress leader Shobha Oza told ANI that the Supreme Court has given clear directions in this matter and violation of it was ‘unfortunate’.
“It is very unfortunate that even institutions like the police do not understand this. There is a Supreme Court direction that rape victims’ name and identity cannot be made public. The policemen responsible for it must be punished,” Oza told ANI.
According to reports, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the police for harming the dignity of the victim.
After the major embarrassment to the state police force, the Nitish Kumar-led government said the matter will be investigated and all those responsible will be punished.
The police had released the name and address of the rape victim on the official Facebook page of the police force. (ANI)
