Cops gearing up for Srikrishna report fallout

Karimnagar, October 25: The state police is gearing up for possible trouble after the Srikrishna Committee submits its report on the state bifurcation issue on or after December 31. Director general of police K Aravinda Rao, speaking to newsmen here today, said: “Additional central forces have already been requisitioned to tackle any law and order problems in the state.” “Any agitation should be in a democratic way. If anyone resorts to violence, the police will have to take stringent action,” he said.

Later in the day, the DGP said at Warangal that the police was seized of the issue and had been assessing the situation. “We are concerned only with maintenance of law and order. We will have to come up with strategies to deal with the situation, if the agitations turn violent,” Aravinda Rao said. “The police has taken all measures to ensure that Maoists will not strengthen their base under the veil of movements.” The DGP, referring to heightened naxalite activity in neighbouring Maharashtra, Chattisgarh and Orissa, said that additional forces had already been deployed in Karimnagar, Adilabad, Khammam, Warangal, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam districts.

Maoists from Chhattisgarh were infiltrating Karimnagar and Khammam districts and measures were taken to restrict their activity.
