Cops forcibly shift TDP MLA to hospital

Hyderabad, July 01: Amid high drama and tension, police foiled the indefinite hunger strike of Kovvur TDP MLA TV Rama Rao at Indira Park here Tuesday and forcibly shifted him to the Gandhi Hospital.

Rama Rao has been on fast since Monday demanding that the charges of rape and murder of a student in his college be dropped.

Extending their support to the MLA, his family members and scores of nursing students joined his protest.

Stating that the MLA’s health condition worsened, police swooped on the hunger strike camp after 10.30 pm and shifted Rama Rao. Tension prevailed as Rama Rao resisted the police from shifting him. The family members and nursing students also made frantic efforts to stop the forcible shifting.

Police, however, bundled Rama Rao into an ambulance and shifted him to the Gandhi Hospital. As Rama Rao did not get out of the ambulance at the hospital he was forcibly taken into the hospital and administered treatment.

Rama Rao’s daughter Lakshmi condemned the `brutal’ manner in which her father was shifted. “The police claim that my father’s health is bad.

Then how could they shift him in such a rude manner,’’ she wondered.

Lakshmi and other nursing students, however, are continuing the fast and said they would not hesitate to sacrifice their lives. “Our protest will continue till the false cases against my father are dropped and the government tender an unconditional apology to my father,’’ Lakshmi said.

TDP legislator M Narsimhulu said the party was behind the MLA’s struggle.

Rama Rao sat on hunger strike yesterday amid high drama. He initially tried to stage a protest at the Ambedkar statue at Lower Tank Bund but police shifted him to the Gandhi Nagar police station. After staging a protest there, he shifted the venue to Indira Park.
