Cops in fix as dead woman comes walking

Hyderabad, September 27: Investigations into the killing of a woman who was stuffed in a suitcase and abandoned at the Mehdipatnam bus stand about two months ago suffered yet another stumbling block. Police, who were suspecting the body might be of a missing woman from Halia in Nalgonda district got a shock when the woman walked into Humayunnagar police station on Saturday.

The murder had come to light on August 3 when locals noticed an abandoned suitcase near the crowded bus stand. Suspecting that it might contain explosives, they alerted police and bomb disposal squad who opened it and instead found the stuffed body of a woman.

A few weeks after the murder, police narrowed in on a woman from Halia in Nalgonda district, Renuka who had gone missing from the Gandhi Hospital days before body was found in the suitcase. “All physical particulars of Renuka, age, complexion, and height had matched with the murdered woman,” an investigating officer said. Police then sent the blood samples of Renuka’s parents, Nagamma and Brahmachary for DNA tests to ascertain whether the murdered woman was Renuka. The report is still awaited.

Even as the police were waiting, the missing Renuka came back and stated she had left the house as she could not bear harassment meted out by her in-laws. “Renuka left her in-laws house and went to her parents who reprimanded her for leaving the house. They asked her to adjust to the conditions which made her furious and leave, “ a police officer said.

“Since Renuka has come back, we are now verifying other missing woman cases. We will check whether any missing woman’s particulars match with the deceased,” Humayunnagar police inspector P Madhukar Swamy said.

The identity of the murdered woman still remains a mystery even after lookout circulars were issued to all police stations in the state.

Suspecting the woman might hail from Maharashtra, state police teams has also inquired with their counterparts there.

Dozens of families have approached the police suspecting the body might be of their missing child but none have so far match ed with the particulars of the deceased woman.

Meanwhile, sketches of two woman, who according to eye-witnesses came in a car and left the suitcase released by the police have failed to provide any clues about the killers.
