Cops decide to subject ‘serial bride,’ hubby to DNA test

Police have decided to conduct a DNA test on much married woman Shahanaz Ismail, who is now in the family way and her fourth husband Prasanna, who is said to be the baby’s father.

Police sources said Shahanaz, who was arrested in Bangalore and brought to the city yesterday after several complaints of marriage and cheating poured against her, had claimed she was carrying Prasanna’s baby.

Since Prasanna, one of the complainants against the woman, refuted her allegations, police have decided to conduct a DNA test on both to ascertain the truth.

Police arrested serial bride Shahanaz, who had allegedly duped several men from the state by marrying and promising to marry them.

She had also taken jewellery and money to the tune of several lakhs from them.

The modus operandi of the 25-year-old woman, hailing from Pathanamthitta in Kerala, who had already separated from her last husband, was to lure men, marry them, take money and jewels, before ditching them one after the other.

Shahnaz used to lay a honey trap and victims willingly walked in.

In fact, one Manikandan had fought with his parents to marry Shahnaz, who is from a different religion. Such was her overpowering influence on men whom she picked up.

She would marry, live for a few weeks, collect valuables in the house and scoot.

‘Shahnaz has confessed to marrying only four and not 50 or 100 men as claimed by some TV channels,’ a police officer probing the case said on condition of anonymity.
