Hyderabad, June 17: Making a mockery of policing, robbers are striking at will in the Cyberabad police limits. They seem to have developed a penchant for committing offence in broad daylight.
The armed robbery at a jewellery shop in Neredmet on Tuesday was the second such incident in the same area, in less than three months.
On May 21, armed robbers shot at and stabbed Subhalakshmi Jewellers owner Mukesh Agarwal and decamped with 20 tolas of gold in A S Rao Nagar.
Both the incidents happened in broad daylight and even after having CCTV footage of the incident at Subhalakshmi Jewellers, police could not get any specific leads in the case so far.
According to Cyberabad deputy commissioner of police (DCP) (Crime) G Suryaprakasa Rao, different gangs might be responsible for the two incidents.
“In the Neredmet case, we suspect that robbers from north India are involved in the heist. We are looking at the movement of some gangs and showing their photographs to the victim for identification,” Rao said.
In the A S Rao Nagar case, special teams have visited Bellary and Chennai with images of the robbers collected from the CCTV footage, but it proved futile.
“At one stage, we even suspected a suspended police constable to be involved in the theft, but later it turned out to be wrong. Now, the special teams are focussing on other gangs,” additional commissioner of police (ACP), Malkajgiri, R Ravindra Reddy said.
On June 10, robbers abducted Ramchander, a marketing firm employee of Saroornagar, at around 10.30 am, after throwing chilli powder on his face and robbed Rs 16 lakhs cash that he was carrying to deposit at a bank in IS Sadan.
However, till now, police could not track the Santro car in which the robbers made way. “The temporary registration number on the robbers’ car turned out to be a fake one. But looking at the way the offence has been executed, it was definitely a professional gang. But so far, we have got no leads in the case,” Saidabad inspector G Srinivas said.
On the same day, two robbers entered the house of a retired bank manager, Sambasiva Rao, at Lakshma Reddy Colony of Hayathnagar in the guise of tenants. After threatening the aged couple with a gun, they escaped with 25 tolas of gold and Rs two lakhs cash. Police are clueless even in this case.
With lax patrolling, it seems robbers have a found a safe haven in the Cyberabad commissionerate limits.
