Hyderabad, December 31: After promising that they would not come in the way of the New Year celebrations in spite of prohibitory orders being in force, the police on Wednesday clarified that revellers would not be allowed to have a free run on the roads.
The police would be curbing drunken, rash and negligent driving, overspeeding and triple-riding on the New Year’s Eve.
City Police Commissioner B Prasada Rao said traffic police would take up extensive checks to curb the above mentioned offences and other traffic violations as such acts could lead to fatal accidents.
Breath analysers would be used to book drunken drivers.
The police have also imposed restrictions on the movement of vehicles around the Hussainsagar. Vehicular traffic will not be allowed on the NTR Marg, Necklace Road and Upper Tank Bund from 10 p.m to 2 a.m.
Alternate routes: Vehicular traffic coming from the VV Statue towards Necklace Road and NTR Marg will be diverted towards Khairatabad and Raj Bhavan Road.
Traffic from BRK Bhavan towards NTR Marg will be diverted towards Iqbal Minar, Lakdikapul and Ayodhya.
Traffic from Liberty junction towards Secunderabad will be diverted at the MCH office Y-junction towards BRK Bhavan, Telugu Talli, Iqbal Minar, Ravindra Bharathi, Lakdikapul and Ayodhya.
Traffic from Khairatabad Market towards Necklace Rotary will be diverted at Khairatabad towards Meera Talkies lane. The Mint compound lane adjacent to Secretariat will be closed for vehicular traffic.
Traffic from Nallagutta railway bridge will not be allowed towards Sanjeevaiah Park and Necklace Road and will be diverted towards Karbala Maidan or Minister’s Road. Traffic from Secunderabad will be diverted at the Sailing Club towards Kavadiguda crossroads, Lower Tank Bund, Kattamaisamma Temple, Ashok Nagar and RTC crossroads.
