Malleswaram woman traffic police inspector Shashikala was suspended for allegedly leading the convoy of AICC president Sonia Gandhi through an undesignated route on Saturday morning.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, police commissioner Jyothi Prakash Mirji confirmed the lapse and said the officer in question has been suspended and an inquiry ordered into the issue.
Sonia’s convoy from Raj Bhavan was scheduled to take a left turn at Anil Kumble Circle and proceed towards Cubbon Road. Instead, the convoy continued on MG Road and took a left turn at the Cauvery Emporium junction on to Kamaraj Road before moving on to Cubbon Road.
The lapse was allegedly caused by the woman inspector in the pilot car. She was reportedly speaking on her cell phone and signalled the driver of the vehicle to proceed towards MG Road from the Anil Kumble Circle.
