Howrah: A police constable on poll duty died after a parked bus crushed him after it was hit by a truck at Uluberia in Howrah district today, where fourth phase West Bengal Assembly polls will take place the day after.
Nokul Chandra Das, a constable from New Township police station under Asansol-Durgapur Police Commisionerate was standing before a parked bus in front of an EVM distribution centre when the bus was hit by a truck from behind, a district poll official said.
As the stationary bus, waiting for security personnel on poll duty including Das to board, nudged forward under the impact, the constable was knocked down.
He was taken to hospital but died later.
