Cop misbehaves with woman, arrested

Ghaziabad, March 17: A constable, posted at Lal Quan police post in Ghaziabad, was arrested and sent to jail after he allegedly misbehaved with a woman who was participating in a religious procession. The procession, which was taking the jyoti of Navratra, started from Dadri and had to reach Delhi via Ghaziabad.

According to the police, the procession was passing through the police post around 4 am when constable Prasadi Lal, who was in an inebriated condition, misbehaved with the woman. “After the incident, nearly 150 people accompanying the procession gheroed the police post causing situation of riot,” said Raghubir Lal, Ghaziabad SSP.

An inspector sustained injuries as he tried to control the mob.

“R K Sharma sustained head injuries and had to be admitted to the hospital. The policemen deployed at the police post did not inform us about the incident and the critical situation at the post till the inspector was hurt. I have transferred all the nine policemen posted at Lal Quan police post to police lines,” added the SSP.

A case under Section 354 of the IPC, outraging modesty of woman, has been registered against the constable.

An FIR has also been registered at Kavi Nagar police station against four persons — Veerpal, Sunil, Sanjay and Rinku — for injuring Sharma.
