Hyderabad: A police constable was today arrested for allegedly cheating several people by posing as an inspector.
Vadali Sriranga Raju, a police constable working at 1st Battalion in Yousuguda here, had appeared for Senior Inspectors recruitment exams twice in 2009 and 2011, but he could not succeed, the Uppal police said.
“Due to non-selection for SI post, he started wearing uniform of SI/Inspector during his off-duty hours and introduced himself to public as Inspector working at ACB/Reserve Inspector and various places by creating fake ID card,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Malkajgiri Zone) Rama Rajeswari R said.
In 2014, the accused got close to a woman schoolteacher by introducing her as Inspector and had been in touch with her till date, and due to close acquaintance she gave Rs 2 lakh to the accused, the DCP said.
Following a complaint by the woman, police registered a case under relevant sections of IPC and arrested Raju, she said.
The police have seized an SUV, two bikes, two laptops, duplicate ID cards of Reserve Inspector, original constable ID card and Reserve Inspector Uniform from the possession of the accused.
