Cop gives in to pressure of rape charge, ends life

Unable to bear the stigma of being a rape accused, a policeman here allegedly committed suicide today by shooting himself, after he charged in his suicide note two local journalists, three cops and the woman with conspiring to malign his image.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Karan Singh (54) shot himself with his service revolver at Parao police station where he was posted, police said.

A rape case was registered against Singh on Wednesday and he was said to be under depression since then, police said.

A suicide note was recovered from his possession in which he alleged that the charges against him was part of a conspiracy hatched by the complainant woman, three police officers and two local journalists.

The suicide note also mentioned that the rape case would defame his family, and that is why he decided to take this step.

A woman had accused Singh of sexually assaulting her when he was posted at Barara police station. She alleged that Singh had summoned her a number of times in connection with a molestation case, and raped her.

DCP, Ambala (Urban), Vinod Kaushik had said that three separate inquiries were conducted against Singh and he was given a clean chit.

Kaushik said that on November 18, the victim filed another complaint in Barara police station against Singh and following direction by Supreme Court, a case was registered against him under section 376 IPC on November 27.

He said the police was investigating Singh’s allegations against certain persons, levelled in his suicide note.
