Cop dies while biking

Sharjah, January 21: A policeman at the emergency and rescue unit of the Sharjah police died on Wednesday while his colleague sustained severe injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at the Rashid Hospital, Dubai.

According to a Sharjah police official who spoke on conditions of anonymity, the two policemen were driving bikes — which used to be their hobby — in the desert of Al Bayader area. “As soon as we were notified about the accident, we rushed to their rescue. The first policeman died on the spot while the second was rushed to Rashid Hospital with the help of a helicopter. He is currently recovering at the hospital,” he said.

The Sharjah police are also investigating the death of an Egyptian national whose body was found decomposed at one of the roads near the clock tower. A police official who confirmed the incident said that the police was notified about a decomposed body near the Khan mosque.

“Investigations revealed that the Egyptian, who was living at one of the residential flats, had died four days before his body was discovered. The body has been removed to the criminal investigation department to investigate if there has been foul play,” he said.
