Cop asked to pay Rs 50k for engaging wheel of justice

New Delhi, May 17: A court has held a former Delhi police constable guilty of forging his school leaving certificate to get the job in 1976 and imposed a cost of Rs 50,000 on him for contesting the case for 34 years.

Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Kumar, however, ordered the release of convict Kishan Chand on probation for a period of three years saying “I am of the opinion that sentencing a convict to imprisonment after such a long time would not serve the purpose”.

“The State, which had spent money and time for such a long period for prosecuting the convict, must also be compensated,” the court said imposing the cost on the convict.

The order of the court came on an appeal challenging the acquittal of Chand in May 1986 of the charge of forging his school leaving certificate.
