Cook considers England’s triumph in Ashes ‘beyond belief’

London, Aug. 9 : England skipper Alastair Cook has expressed his excitement after claiming an emphatic innings and 78-run win over Australia in the fourth Ashes Test at Trent Bridge, saying that it was beyond his belief.

Cook praised his players for surprising him with their brilliant performance, adding that he never thought that his side was quite ready to win the Ashes.

The 30-year-old admitted that his side has won some really critical moments, saying the players with little experience have turned into match-winners for England.

Earlier, the tourists were bundled out for a paltry 60 in their first innings as fast bowler Stuart Broad wreaked havoc on the Australian batsmen to claim career-best figures of 8-15.

England then capitalised on Joe Root’s century (130) before declaring their first innings on 391-9 to give a commanding lead.

The win also marked a remarkable turnaround for England from the 5-0 hammering they endured in Australia 18 months ago.

England have now beaten Australia in four consecutive home series. (ANI)
