Cook admits he considered relinquishing England captaincy

Johannesburg: Alastair Cook has revealed that he considered stepping down as England Test skipper several times in the past.

The 31-year-old, who recently became the youngest batsman to accumulate 10,000 runs in the longest format of the game, stated that he ‘lived on the edge for quite a number of years as captain’.

Cook disclosed he was ‘very close’ from making that decision at the end of the Ashes series last year but added that the 3-2 series win encouraged him to stay on, Sport24 reported.

The left-hander remarked that the victories at Edgbaston and Trent Bridge within a gap of 10 days made him realise that he still wants to lead his talented side further.

He also said that he would step aside from captaincy if he feels ‘the team is getting a bit stale, bored with me’. (ANI)
