HYDERABAD: Former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin and Congress leader said on Sunday had expressed his desire to contest contest the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Telangana’s Secunderabad constituency.
However, the final decision will be taken by the Congress high command, said the 55-year-old cricketer-turned-politician in an interview to the agencies on Sunday.
“I have visited so many places and villages in the constituency and spoken with farmers and other people, they all welcomed me to contest from there. I have conveyed my feelings. At the end of the day, the party is the supreme power…,” the news agency quoted him saying.
Asked on chances of winning from Secunderabad, the former MP, said, “I want to work for the people there (Secunderabad). I have worked very hard in the constituency, but I don’t believe in publicity.”
Azharuddin had won the Moradabad constituency in Uttar Pradesh in 2009 Lok Sabha polls.
