Hyderabad, November 21: A division bench of the AP High Court comprising Justice A Gopal Reddy and Justice KC Bhanu on Friday rejected applications for discharging mediapersons and YS Jagan in the contempt case pending against them in the court.
To the uninitiated, the court had suo moto started contempt proceedings against ‘Saakshi’ media house, the MP and some others. The proceedings related to a case filed by the present government for recovery of land allotted to the IMG during the TDP regime.
During the pendency of the case, the media house is said to have carried certain statements attributed to Ahobila Rao (Billi Rao) which were alleged to be contemptuous.
The accused persons filed applications for discharge which was rejected by the bench. The bench, however, allowed applications filed by Ahobila Rao seeking certain documents and papers filed in court to enable him to defend himself in the contempt case.
The bench directed the cases to be listed after eight weeks.
TTD ex-chief’s writ plea not admitted
Justice R Subhash Reddy refused to admit a writ petition filed by former TTD chairman B Karunakar Reddy seeking a CBI inquiry on the allegations made against him by TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu and others.
Karunakar Reddy also pleaded that in case a CBI inquiry was not possible, an inquiry by a sitting High Court or Supreme Court judge should be ordered.
