People of old city are complaining since long, that they are being supplied with contaminated water and were demanding to take measures to purify water. The water pipeline is corroded from several places and the drainage water is getting mixed with the drinking water.
People are suffering from various diseases but the concerned department is not paying heed to the serious public demand. The department of health is also showing carelessness in this connection and it has totally neglected the old city. It did not think it to be necessary to do lab testing of the water supplied to these areas.
Interestingly there is no complaint in the areas predominated by majority community like Rajanagar, Shamsheer ganj, front area of Aliabad, Kandikal gate, Lal Darwaza and Uppuguda, while in areas predominated by minority community such as Jahanuma, Mustafa Nagar, Owaisi Hills, Ansari Road, Tigalkunta, Hasan Nagar, Mahmood nagar, Babanagar, Indira nagar Kala pathar, Phool bagh, Nawab Saheb Kunta, Vattepally and Ansari road, complains of contaminated water supply is common and water pressure is also very low in these areas.
It would not be wrong to say that discrimination is meted out in case of water supply. The residents told that when the tap is opened highly contaminated water comes for the first half an hour, then gradually its colour changes to normal transparent but still the foul smell persists.
