Consumers now have to pay for new pipelines?

Hyderabad, April 09: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) is laying new pipelines and decided to charge the consumers for it.

The Water Board is undertaking laying of new pipelines in areas where there are complaints of polluted water supply and for changing connections to new lines, it is planning to levy a charge of Rs 2,500, for consumers who do not have white ration cards. “It will be free for white card holders,” HMWS&SB managing director M Jagadeeshwar said.

The managing director undertook inspections on Sunday in some houses in Lalapet, Vinobhanagar and Kimti Colony, where complaints about low pressure were reported.

He instructed officials to replace valves and regulate them to solve the problem. He also visited the Journalists’ Colony and interacted with residents.

He said some areas falling under Yellareddyguda section would be shifted to the Banjara Hills section.

Jagadeeshwar also inspected the inlet pipeline laying works to Vajpee Nagar reservoir.

The reservoir is very essential to improve water supply from once-in-five days to once-in-three days to residents of the Defence Colony.

The MD instructed officials to complete all works on a war footing, for commissioning the reservoir during this summer.
