Hyderabad: Tension prevailed at Golconda Eidgah near Qutub Shahi tombs on Tuesday when an illegal occupant tried to construct a temple on the Waqf land of old Masjid Qutub Shahi.
The Qutub Shahi masjid which has nearly 1.5-acre land attached to it is uninhabited. The court has issued stay order in connection with the land. The land has been occupied by anti-social elements for long. Recently they had stopped Waqf Board from doing an inspection of the land.
To strengthen the illegal occupation, a small temple has been erected on the land. On receipt of information, locals gathered on the spot and expressed anger. Waqf Board chairman Mohammed Saleem informed respective deputy commissioner of police and sent a team of officers led by chief executive officer Mannan Farooqui to review the situation.
Keeping in view people’s anger, police assured to take action against the perpetrators and said the temple would be removed.
