To keep another poll promise of providing housing facility to poor from next financial year, ie., April first week onwards, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today directed the officials concerned to prepare modalities on massive construction of houses in all districts.
During a high level review meeting attended by minister T Harish Rao, KTR, J Krishna Rao, C Lakshma Reddy, Indrakarn Reddy and J Ramanna at Secretariat here he stressed the need for providing shelter to deserving poor on an expeditious manner. KCR said that housing facility was began on experimental basis at Hyderabad, Warangal and Mahabubnagar and priority will be given to the poorest of the poor without giving room for corruption. Stating that the housing poor issue will be discussed in a Cabinet meeting and take suggestions from MLAs, MPs and MLCs.
Taking a dig at the previous governments for failing to provide housing facility he criticized that though thousands of crores spent the former could not provide shelter to the poor. We have to deal with corruption cases of the previous governments which failed to provide shelter to the poor despite spending crores of money, he said. As many as 490 officials were suspended and many sent to jail which can be attributed to rampant corruption, false policies and negligence of the previous governments, he alleged. The Chief Minister directed them to prepare proposals for disbursal of Rajiv Swagruha, Rajiv Gruha Kalpa houses besides formulating a suitable housing policy. Each house should be in a position to cater to the needs of a single family to live in comfortably with two bed rooms, toilet, bathroom and living space he said. (NSS)
