Hyderabad, October 19: Positive steps were taken to evict illegal possessions on Wakf properties during the past one year. Top priority was given to eradicate suspicions of the Muslims about the functioning of Wakf Board. Tenders have been invited for the construction of a huge complex on the land adjacent of Haj House at Nampally.
Maulana Syed Ghulam Afzal Biyabani, Chairman of Wakf Board was talking to newsmen on completion of one year of the tenure of his office.
At present 2200 notices are being issued to illegal occupants of Wakf properties. Criminal cases would be registered against illegal occupants and Wakf properties would be evacuated soon. Nearly 1500 notices are pending with the Revenue Divisional Officers.
The Chairman told the newsmen that so far, Wakf properties used to be given on lease but now they will be given on B.O.T. (Build operate and transfer) scheme which will enhance the revenue of Wakf Board and the developmental schemes could be implemented. Under this new scheme ten properties have been identified in Hyderabad. He said that for want of staff the functioning of Wakf Board was not satisfactory.
After his assuming charge as Chairman many new arrangements have been made. C.C.T.V. cameras were installed to monitor middle men and agents. The Board needs five Surveyors and one inspector in each of the districts. Enquiry Officers were recruited. Former Judge Mr. E.Ismail and five retired Revenue Officials were recruited. Begumpet Tank Force office premises and other properties were taken possession. He promised to enhance the income of the Wakf Board in future.
