Jeddah: Construction company Saudi Binladin Group reportedly plans to sell some of its property and other assets to pay its workers.
The news comes after Binladin staff gathered in Jeddah this week to protest the non-payment of their salaries and end-of-service dues that would allow them to travel home before Ramadan, according to Arab News.
Security forces has been deployed to dispersed large crowd that had assembled outside the firm after sealing off Al-Hamadinia neighbourhood, north of Jeddah.
As per the sources, Saudi Binladin has projects worth (SAR490bn) – with several worth (SAR248bn) in jeopardy. Some workers at the recent claimed that they have not been paid for six months.
Yaseen Al-Attas, Binladin spokesman said the company does not comment on its financial affairs or its relations with partners. The company is committed to paying employees and finishing contracted projects on time, Arab Newsadded.
