Mr. Veda Kumar, President of Forum for better Hyderabad told that the construction of boundary wall and shed at Charminar Police Station is the violation of heritage act. He said that Charminar and Golconda Fort are the two monumental buildings which are our cultural heritage. Hyderabad is identified in the entire world due to Charminar. Construction activities by Govt. departments are the attempts to destroy the grandeur of these cultural heritage buildings.
If historical monuments wouldn’t have been ruined for using them for personal gains. Hyderabad would have gained the status of a heritage city. He pointed out that only 166 historical monuments are being looked after by Govt. out of 800 heritage buildings. Heritage protection organizations are actively involved to ensure the maintenance of the remaining heritage buildings.
Mr. Veda Kumar told that despite making representation to UNESCO for providing heritage building status to Golconda Fort and Charminar, construction activities around these buildings are in progress which are deplorable. He expressed his surprise that police department is indulging in such activities.
The construction has been done without Municipal permission. He regretted that Inspector of the Archaeological Survey of India, Incharge of Charminar is keeping quiet on these constructions. He demanded the Govt. to stop the construction of compound wall and erection of shed at Charminar police station.
