Constable gets 3 years jail for seeking bribe

New Delhi, January 29: A court today sentenced a former Delhi police constable to three years imprisonment for seeking bribe from a woman after threatening to implicate her son in a criminal case.

Special Judge A S Yadav refused to show any leniency to Amang Pal, the then Delhi police constable, after holding him guilty of various offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The court also slapped a fine of Rs 25,000 on Pal who was apprehended by sleuths of Delhi government’s Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on February 14, 2000, while taking Rs 2,000 as an instalment of the bribe from complainant Surinder Kaur.

Kaur had lodged a complaint with ACB alleging Pal, along with his two colleagues posted at Nand Nagri police station, had picked up her son Pradeep Kumar and demanded Rs 5,000 for his release.
