Conspiracy to malign Nityananda, says ashram

Chennai, March 05: Maintaining that the video footage purportedly showing self-styled godman Nityananda Swami in a compromising position was morphed, his ashram today said there was a “conspiracy” to malign his reputation.

“It is a big conspiracy. Images have been morphed to show that the person in the video is Swami Nityananda. He has not done anything wrong,” Swami Athmakrubananda, the official spokesperon of Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam, told reporters here.

When asked about the whereabouts of the godman, he said Nityananda had gone to participate in Kumbh Mela and would meet the press “when required.”

To reporters’ query, he said he could neither disclose much information on the issue nor could he technically prove ‘right now’ that it was not the godman in the video.

Nityananda’s advocate M Shreedhar alleged that a private media house in Tamil Nadu was victimising him for not obliging its request to write in its magazine and deliver talks on its TV channel.

However, when pointed out that some other TV channels had also aired the video, he insisted a campaign was on to bring disrepute to Nityananda.

He said they will resort to legal recourse.
