Osmania University was the first university of the world to have Urdu as the medium of instruction. Mir Osman Ali Khan, the VII Nizam of the erstwhile Hyderabad state, laid the foundation stone for the Arts College building on July 5, 1934, and it was declared open by him on December 4, 1939. But with a planned conspiracy of communal and anti-Urdu elements, Urdu medium courses were changed to English and gradually the language become extinct from the mainstream functioning of the university.
The emblem of Osmania University was also changed gradually; Urdu inscription was removed from the emblem. The emblem also contained Prophet Mohammed (SAW) words “Noorun Ala Noor” in Arabic.
Not only this but the foundation stone has also been badly ignored. The foundation stone which contains Quranic verses, history of its foundation and other details, is being buried underground. Trash is being deliberately thrown around it. This way a day will come when the foundation stone will vanish completely forever.
