There is a spurt in conjunctivitis cases in the city over the last few days. People should take precautionary measures to contain the spread of the disease. According to experts chances of this type of viral infection rise with a drop in temperature when winter sets in. But this time due to fast spread of the disease hospitals have been receiving a steady stream of red-eyed patients. Doctors say that basically the disease is viral and it has several harmful effects, hence the patient must see the doctor as soon as the symptoms occur.
According to Dr. P V Nand Kumar Reddy superintendent Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital, the disease requires enough rest. He further said that such a large number of conjunctivitis patients were not seen in the earlier years. The symptoms of the disease are blurred vision, crusts that form on the eyelid overnight, eye pain, grit in the eyes, increased tearing, itching and redness in the eyes.
