Congressmen ordered to ditch JAC

New Delhi, March 01: The Congress on Sunday asked its leaders in Andhra Pradesh to withdraw from the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) and issued virtual gag orders.

Annoyed with the statements being issued, the party high command asked its leaders not to rush to the press on the “sensitive issue”. Union Law Minister and in-charge of party affairs in the state, M Veerappa Moily, warned that any violation of the party discipline would be seriously dealt with.

In a statement, Moily said, “Our Congress leaders are required to not to rush to the press on a sensitive issue like this to precipitate the matters and disrupt the normalcy restored after the discussions held with all political parties and leaders on January 5, 2010, by the Union Home Minister.” “The Congress leaders should also withdraw themselves from the Joint Action Committee,” he said. “The Government of India is seized of the matter with respect to the formation of a committee or mechanism to look into all the issues and concerns of all the regions in Andhra Pradesh. The terms of reference are under preparation and not yet finalised,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar said that she was yet to decide on the resignation of three MPs from Andhra Pradesh.
