Hyderabad, September 11: The 20-point programme chairman N Tulasi Reddy clarified that the Congress party was yet to decide on whether or not to field a candidate in the Banswada by-election.
Talking to reporters here on Saturday, Tulasi Reddy said that the party would take decision at an appropriate time regarding Banswada by-polls. He was apparently trying to counter the Telangana Congress Steering Committee’s decision to boycott the Banswada by-polls. With this statement, he tried to clarify that the Steering Committee’s decision was not official and the party high command would take its own decision on the issue.
Banswada seat fell vacant after MLA Pocharam Srinivas Reddy quit the TDP to join Telangana Rashtra Samithi. For by-polls Pocharam will be the official candidate of TRS and with the Telangana sentiments running high, it is being assumed that all parties including the TDP, BJP and Congress together would ensure his unanimous election.
