Dehra Dun, April 04: Congress workers today protested the police lathicharge on people gathered in the state capital to celebrate India’s win in the World Cup on Saturday.
Scores of Congress workers gathered at Deputy Inspector General of Police’s office and shouted slogans against the police lathicharge on people and demanded action against the erring policemen.
As M S Dhoni hit the winning six, thousands of people riding on bikes and cars rushed to the Clock Tower to participate in the celebrations marking Team India’s second World Cup win.
Police lathicharged after some people from the crowd threw stones in which scores of people including 10 policemen and several media persons were injured.
When contacted, police sources said the matter has been handed over for investigation to Dehra Dun Superintendent of Police (Rural) and any action would be taken on the basis of that report.
