Khammam: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President N. Uttam Kumar Reddy expressed confidence that the Congress candidate Sucharitha Ramreddy would win the by-elections from Palair Assembly Constituency in Khammam district with a thumping majority.
Addressing a press conference at Khammam DCC Office here on Saturday, Uttam Kumar Reddy strongly condemned IT Minister K. Tarakarama Rao for stating that the TRS Government had spent the medical bills for treatment of Palair MLA Ramreddy Venkatreddy, whose sudden demise necessitated by-polls. Accusing KTR of misleading the people, he said the treatment cost of Ramreddy Venkatreddy was borne not only by TRS Government, but also by previous Congress Government. “As a sitting MLA, Ramreddy Venkatreddy was entitled for free treatment. It is highly derogatory on the part of KTR to make a mention of treatment cost for a deceased MLA,” he said.
Uttam Kumar Reddy also accused TRS Government of neglecting mother of Telangana martyr Srikanth Chary, K. Sankaramma, who was fielded as TRS candidate from Huzurnagar constituency. “She was completely forgotten after she lost the elections. However, a Telangana betrayer, Tummala Nageshwara Rao, who also lost the elections, was rewarded with a cabinet berth and then made a MLC under MLA’s quota. He was again fielded as ruling party’s candidate from Palair. This is how the TRS treats a martyr and a betrayer. Mother of a Telangana’s martyr was left in the lurch and a betrayer is getting political rewards, one after the other,” he said.
The TPCC chief said that Palair Assembly segment has fertile lands due to the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam constructed by the Congress Government. The credit for industrialisation of Khammam goes to Congress party. The Kothagudem Power Plant, Bhadrachalam Paper Board, Heavy Water Plant, Sponge Manufacutring units or the Granite Industry received full patronage of previous Congress regimes. However, he said that Khammam was nowhere on the radar of TRS Government. “Not a single mandal of Khammam figured in the list of drought affected areas. TRS Government completely neglected relief and rehabilitation works in the drought hit areas of Khammam district,” he said.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the TRS Government has failed to implement any of the major promises that it made with the people in its manifesto for 2014 General Elections. They include promises like three acres land for Dalit families, 12% Reservation for STs and Muslims, 2BHK houses for poor and one job for every household. He alleged that the corruption was rampant in almost all the government projects like never before in the history of independent India. “Wherever there are chances of commission, works pertaining to that particular project are being carried out fast while others are ignored,” he lamented.
Stating that the people of Palair were wise enough, Uttam Kumar Reddy expressed confidence that they would elect Congress candidate Sucharita Reddy in this election. (NSS)
