Congress will perish if Sonia fails to give Telangana: Komatrireddy

Former minister and Nalgonda MLA Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has said that credibility of AICC Chief Sonia Gandhi and new AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi will be at stake if both of them failed to announce a favorable decision on Telangana issue.

Speaking to the media at the CLP office here on Sunday, Komatireddy said nobody would believe Rahul Gandhi if he failed to stick to the word on Telangana issue. He also said even ‘Lord Brahma’ would not save the Congress party from extinction in case Sonia Gandhi failed to keep her word on separate Telangana State. The people in the region would support leadership of Sonia Gandhi only when she speaks in favor of Telangana otherwise, they would reject her leadership, he added.

The former minister said Rahul Gandhi must take an initiative with regard to Telangana and fulfil the word given by Sonia Gandhi. Already 900 youths have committed suicide for the sake of Telangana, he said, adding that the four crore people of Telangana region were losing confidence in the Congress as it was inordinately delaying a decision on Telangana.

Stating that over 900 youth had committed suicides for Telangana State due to the dilatory tactics of the Congress, Komatireddy said he strongly felt that the decision would be in favor of Telangana on January 28. He said there was movement across the world where youth resorted to suicides in large numbers.

Finding fault with Minister Ganta Srinivas Rao for stating that he would tender resignation in case the Centre decides in favor of Telangana, Komatireddy said as the erstwhile PRP Chief Chiranjeevi kept a ‘ganta’ (Bell) on Srinivas Rao’s neck, the latter was speaking to the tunes of Chiranjeevi. “Chiranjeevi has to answer about the remarks of Ganta Srinivas Rao because the latter has become minister in Chiranjeevi’s quota”, he said.

Blaming Ganta for stating that he would tender resignation in case the Centre announced separate Telangana State, Komatireddy said he had already tendered resignation for the sake of Telangana. He warned the Congress party that all the Telangana Congress leaders would leave their positions on January 28 in case the decision comes against the Telangana.

Expressing happiness over Rahul Gandhi becoming vice-president of the party, Komatireddy said Rahul was No. 2 in the party. He said the Congress was weak in several States and Rahul Gandhi has to concentrate on the problem.
