APCC Chief Botcha Satyanarayana has said there was nothing wrong in demanding a Steel Plant for the Telangana region.
Speaking to the media here on Monday, Botcha said it is wishful thinking that the State government has allotted the Bayyaram mines to the public sector company.
He said the G.O. clearly stated that the processing plant would be established at Bayyaram only. He said the quality of Iron Ore available at Bayyaram was not up to the mark to produce steel. He also said there were no differences among the Congress leaders in regard to Bayyaram mines, but the Visakha Steel Plant was a national asset. He said none other than the Congress party would create separate Telangana State as the party respects sentiments of the people of regions.
Making it clear that a Steel Plant would be set up at Bayyaram in Khammam district only, Union minister Balaram Naik wondered as to why the Opposition parties were making a hue and cry on the Bayyaram mines issue. He also demanded the Opposition parties to say on basis they were agitating. He said the G.O. issued with regard to Bayyaram mines clearly stated that a Steel Plant would be established at Bayyaram.
AICC secretary and MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy made it clear that not a single kilogram of iron ore would be transported from Bayyaram to Visakha Steel Plant. He said he has been striving to make the Centre establish a Steel Plant at Bayyaram for several years. He also alleged that TRS Chief K Chandrasekhara Rao was making Bayyaram as an issue only for political gain in Khammam district.
