Congress welcomes Governor’s plan to hold ‘Praja Durbars’

Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Treasurer Gudur Narayana Reddy on Tuesday welcomed the proposal of recently appointed Telangana Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan to hold ‘Praja Durbars’.

Gudur Narayana Reddy, in a media statement, said that the Governor’s proposed move would help the people in expressing their grievances before the authorities. “Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao is totally inaccessible. “Except for his family members, a few officials, and ministers, he is not available for anyone including ministers, his own party MLAs leave alone the people. No one has access to the Chief Minister’s Office and Telangana’s CMO has remained inaccessible and non-responsive for the last six years. Most of the ministers neither visit the Secretariat on a regular basis nor grant access to the people at their Camp offices. Therefore, it would provide a big relief to the people if the Governor starts her ‘Praja Durbar’ at the earliest,” he said.

The Congress leader said that corruption was rampant in all departments of State Government. The officials, at all levels, are not displaying any signs of accountability. He said there was not a single instance of any official getting sacked for dereliction of duties. “No action has been taken against any official for their failure to control the spread of Dengue and other viral diseases in the State. There was no action against anyone even in serious complaints of negligence leading to death. The Chief Minister has openly admitted of lapses in the exercise of land records rectification. Not a single official was questioned over their failure to minimize agrarian crisis which even led to thousands of suicides. Police officials are being used by the ruling party as a tool to suppress the opponents. Under this scenario, Governor’s Praja Durbar would help thousands of helpless people who are not being heard by the TRS Government,” he said.

Gudur said that some TRS leaders have opposed the idea of Governor’s ‘Praja Durbar’ on the grounds that she was holding a Constitutional post. As the Constitutional Head of the State, it is the duty of the Governor to intervene into the matters of public importance, he said. “A Governor enjoys vast powers and Dr. Soundararajan is an efficient lady who knows how to utilize those powers for the betterment of common people. The officials would quickly respond to any representation forwarded by the Governor while ensuring that the grievances are resolved. The Congress party will support any move that benefits the common man,” he said.
